The Sacred Leaves Trilogy teaches the reader to create magical recipes using the powers of plants in the African-religious culture
Written by Diego de Oxóssi, the Brazilian best-selling book trilogy presents the biggest dictionary of magic herbs published in Brazil
After ten years of research and experiences in Umbanda and Candomblé temples of Porto Alegre and São Paulo, Diego de Oxóssi learned to use the magic power of the sacred leaves for these religions. From this learning came the idea of writing a guide that could pass on tips and techniques on this use: how to identify and classify the leaves and their acting power, how to combine them to create their own magic recipes and how to awaken their power sacred.
"Since ancient times, Nature has been the source of magic, healing and re-encounter with the Sacred. Natives, blacks and Europeans have always resorted to the hidden power of sacred leaves for the manufacture of medicines or rituals - after all, if the body gets sick, it is because the spirit suffers", explains the author.
The success of the first volume of the trilogy, "The Power of Leaves", released in December 2016 and with more than 4,500 copies sold, inspired Diego to write the second volume of the collection, which will be released at the São Paulo International Book Fair, next August. “The Magic of Leaves” is the biggest dictionary on the liturgical use of the leaves published in Brazil: 365 different species, organized and classified by their popular names, scientific names, regent Orishas and religious characteristics, as well as the description of magical powers and potentials of each of them.
"I realized that in addition to teaching 'how', people wanted to know 'with what'. That the theory of volume 1 was important, but that - as in cooking - to create a good recipe you need to know the ingredients", he says. "To write the rest of the trilogy, I challenged myself to answer three questions: 'how?', 'With what?' and 'can you do even better?'", he explains.
Forthe next year, the author releases "The Secret of Leaves", completing the trilogy!
